Jr. Wordpress Developer (PHP/CSS/HTML)

Exacting front-end/WordPress developer with a discerning visual sense needed for a digital agency supporting social impact organizations. We seek someone with great communication, exceptional coding skills, up-to-the-minute knowledge of web standards, and a natural instinct for aligning development with design.

About Dialogue Theory

We’re a small web design and development studio that works with nonprofits and social impact organizations, enterprises, and startups on projects of significance.

Our projects include building things like citizen engagement tools and open data platforms, large-scale WordPress websites to drive the growth of renewable energy, and online platforms for national organizations changing the game on issues like child abuse prevention and voter registration.

Our projects are nearly always driven by referrals, and many of our clients have renewed engagements with us year after year. We strive to produce consistently excellent, usable, and sometimes surprising experiences.

Requirements

This role requires a solid foundation in modern front-end development and an interest in continuing innovations in user experience. You’ll need the ability to make sustainable web development decisions while working both independently and collaboratively.

Required skills:

  • Extensive WordPress experience

  • WP Engine experience

  • Fluency in PHP, HTML, Sass/SCSS, JavaScript, jQuery

  • Familiarity with Git and version control best practices when working in a team

  • Bonus points for experience with:

    • Build tools and task runners like npm scripts, Gulp, or Grunt

    • Submitting pull requests for code review

  • Thoughtfulness and resourcefulness

  • Empathy for users and for clients, both of whom may be balancing a sometimes conflicting set of needs. This often means having the empathy to see things from others’ perspectives, even when it may mitigate your vision.

Responsibilities

This role is focused on bringing our design prototypes to life by building websites and web applications (mostly on WordPress) that are usable, efficient, performant, secure, sustainable, and consistently beautiful across devices and screen sizes.

You’ll:

  • Collaborate with both our team and client stakeholders, communicating the intricacies of complex web development issues and acting as a subject matter expert both internally across departments and externally with clients

  • Work on a variety of different projects, both building new websites and helping extend or maintain existing sites (in the span of a week, you may work on a custom-built Google Maps API integration with location search and filtering, produce an interactive resource library with ecommerce-like filters, integrate a live chat widget, and work on interactive animations)

  • Install, test, and debug WordPress plugins, and create custom plugins as needed

  • Document the content management process

  • Conduct cross-browser testing and optimization
